US Secretary of Treasury: We Want Keep Bad Guys Off Cryptocurrency

Steven Mnuchin, US Secretary of the Treasury, has been speaking out on Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies quite often lately. So he claimed on Tuesday, US Treasury Department is supervising crypto world for the puprose of finding any criminal activity.

In the course of his speech for US Banking Senate Committee Mnuchin said he does not consider Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies threatening financial solvency yet there are other points that bother him.

“I want to make sure that these are not used by bad guys, that they don't turn into Swiss numbered bank accounts”, he claimed.

Mnuchin added, the department wants to make all American consumers understand the ricks and possible problems cryptocurrencies may cause. He noted, everyone engaged into crypto activity must comply with the rules against money laundering that are already applied to local banks.

The Secretary used to express his concerns earlier, that cryptocurrencies may become another version of Swiss anonymous bank accounts used for money washing. In addition, Mnuchin claimed at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week that they are monitoring cryptocurrencies for possible usage in illegal activities.
