Crypto Exchanges Suffer Substantial Losses in 2018
October 15, 2018
The CipherTrace company has held a research that showed that hackers stole about $927 million from various trade platforms worldwide over 2018. The figure today is 2.5 times higher than that over the whole last year (approximately $266 million).
The team of researchers has underlined it that the index is by far not a fuller picture, the actual situation is yet much worse. CipherTrace cites to private sources saying that significant number of victim exchanges just don’t go to police.
Remarkable is that the most of crypto criminals are no stranger to operating with quite small amounts while petty thefts are more common today than large-scale crypto losses. The most high-profile scandal that spoiled the statistics over this year was a 0.5-billion token theft from Coincheck.
Note that despite crypto hijacking spreading across all levels digital platforms are not eager to improve their security and unwillingly recourse to corresponding authorities.
