Japan-Based Crypto Exchange Lost $60 Million

September 25, 2018

After the Japan’s crypto exchange Tech Bueau Corp. system was hacked criminals hijacked some cryptocurrencies with Bitcoin among them to the tune of $60 million.

The trade platform spokesmen told that their system was subject to attack a week ago from 17 to 19 local time. The bug in the system was only detected on September 17. Just few hours later the company board learned the amount of digital currencies stolen.

The platform executives decided to suspend all internal operations. Basically the stolen assets were stored as user deposits (around $40 million).

Remember that early summer cyber criminals stole over $30-million-worth cryptocurrencies at Bithumb given the exchange is one of the largest in South Korea and among the most secured ones. The incident made the platform to cease operations. Another South Korea’s digital currency exchange Coinrail was attacked mid-summer and lost around $40 million in crypto.
