Despite The Ban, There Are Still Crypto Mining Apps on Play Market

August 29, 2018

According to a study performed by Next Web and published on August 28, there are still applications on the Google's Play Market that allow to mine cryptocurrency directly from devices, although those apps were prohibited by Google.

The decision to ban such apps was announced by Google in late July. Back then, the company updated its policy, adding that it prohibits applications that allow to mine cryptocurrency on devices. The IT giant granted developers a 30-days grace period to update their apps and make them compliant with the new rules.

However, after the end of the grace period, there are still such apps in the Play Market. Next Web's specialists found eight apps, that allow cryptocurrency mining on devices. Three of them were removed from the Play Market, while the developers of Bitcoin Miner ensure, that they removed the prohibited functionality and made their app compliant with the new rules. The remaining four apps, NeoNeonMiner, Crypto Miner PRO, Pickaxe MinerPocket Miner and Pocket Miner, are still available on the Play Market.
