Former US President Bill Clinton to Participate in Ripple Conference

August 1, 2018

42nd US President Bill Clinton will deliver a keynote speech at the upcoming Ripple conference. This is reported on the company's website. The Swell 2018 conference will be held on October 1-2 in San Francisco.

It is reported that Clinton's participation in the conference will not be limited only to his keynote speech, and the former US president will take part in a Q&A session. It is noteworthy that the moderator of the session will be Gene Sperling, who served as director of the National Economic Council during Clinton's presidential term. He's now a member of the board of directors of Ripple.

Ripple says in the announcement, that during his presidency Clinton contributed to the development and adoption of the Internet, despite the fact that regulation and technology often stood in the way of each other, and helped to become the Internet what it is today. In addition, it is noted that Clinton helped develop programs that allowed digital technology to infiltrate less developed regions of the world.

The announcement says:

"These learnings are perhaps more relevant now than ever before. Like the Internet boom of the 90’s, we are at an impasse: digital assets and blockchain technology offer a way for value to be exchanged as quickly as information – creating more financial inclusion and economic opportunity. However, with this new technology comes the potential for concern, requiring thoughtful policy to protect consumers from risk without hampering innovation."

The Swell 2018 conference will also feature speeches of representatives of financial companies, who use blockchain, discussions of new market opportunities for electronic commerce and money transfers, as well as discussions of framework for regulating digital assets in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
