July 25, 2018

One of the two largest mobile network operators of South Korea KT Corporation has launched its own blockchain network and plans to use it for identity verification, data roaming, and energy trading.

CoinDesk Korea reports that KT's blockchain, dubbed KT Network Blockchain, is capable of processing up to 2,500 transactions per second through an integration with a high-speed commercial blockchain network.

KT is going to use the technology for user authentication, which will help streamline the operation of their international roaming services. In addition, the technology will allow the company to safely share user data with its international partners through a distributed network.

The first partners of KT in the work with their blockchain will be a Chinese operator China Mobile and Japanese company NTT DoCoMo. The cooperation will begin later this year. In addition, it is planned that KT Network Blockchain will be used by companies to sell their unused energy quotas.
