China Blocks Social Media Accounts of Crypto Exchanges
March 8, 2018
The government of the People's Republic of China has begun to block accounts of cryptocurrency exchanges in local social media.
An account of a cryptocurrency exchange OKEx in WeChat messenger was the first to be blocked.
All links to previously posted content redirect to the page that states:
"The platform could violate the requirements of laws and regulators. The fact was revealed in the verification process conducted after receiving complaints from users. The account is currently locked and the content is unavailable."
However, representatives of WeChat deny any claims that this decision was forced by the government. At the same time, Chinese media outlets assure that this decision was indeed dictated by Chinese authorities.
