Steve Wozniak Told How He Lost 7 BTC

February 27, 2018

Co-founder of Apple Steve Wozniak shared a story about how he became a victim of scammers who stole 7 BTC from him. He told it at the ET Global Business Summit 2018 summit, which was held in India.

The Economic Times reports him saying:

"The blockchain identifies who has bitcoins ... that doesn't mean there can't be fraud, though. I had seven bitcoins stolen from me through fraud. <...> Somebody bought them from me online through a credit card and they cancelled the credit card payment. It was that easy. And it was from a stolen credit card number so you can never get it back."

According to Wozniak, he bought some bitcoins back when 1 BTC was worth $700. It is worth noting that in today's prices of the cryptocurrency, the damage caused by scammers to Wozniak exceeds $71,000.

Despite this negative experience, Steve Wozniak remains a supporter of cryptocurrency, although he claimed in January that he sold all his bitcoins. Wozniak then said that he acquired the cryptocurrency only for the sake of the experiment and that he did not want to become dependent on the daily checks of exchange rates.
