Atari to Join the Cryptocurrency Market

February 17, 2018

One of the gaming pioneers, a legendary publisher and manufacturer of video games Atari announced the release of two own cryptocurrencies, Atari Token and Pong Token.

The American company, which announced its bankruptcy in 2013, returned to the market, and announced the launch of an entertainment platform based on a blockchain. Atari is working in the partnership with a company Pariplay, which uses characters created by Atari in the design of its online games. It is believed that Atari Token will be implemented in these games.

Atari CEO Frederic Chesnais told Bloomberg:

"Blockchain technology is poised to take a very important place in our environment and to transform, if not revolutionise, the current economic ecosystem, especially in the areas of the video game industry and online transactions."

The second cryptocurrency, Pong Token, will be launched after the launch of the first one and will be designed for the use in online casinos.

According to the press release issued by Atari, the company will give more details on the projects in the near future. It is worthy to note that shortly after the announcement, shares of Atari jumped by 60%.

Arari is not the only company that wants to regain its former glory using the cryptocurrency craze. An american producer of imaging products Kodak earlier this year announced the launch of its own cryptocurrency dubbed KodakCoin, which caused mixed reaction from the community. Shares of the company soared by 115%, but some experts, in particular analysts of Kerrisdale Capital hedge fund, called this project a fraud.
