Iceland Mining Power Consumption Exceeds That of Nation
February 15, 2018
Representatives of the HS Orka company which provides electricity for people of Iceland are worried by high consumption rates among miners. According to the company’s member Johann Snorri, miners may cause electrical emergency as they consume more power than the country’s population as a whole. The latter take only 700 giga-watt while maintenance of mining rigs requires about 840 giga-watt.
“If all these projects are realized, we won't have enough energy for it”, Johann noted.
Iceland possesses huge power reserves drawn from renewable sources which made the country an attracting location for crypto mining. As Snorri said, a number of would-be customers aimed at establishing data processing centers in the country is growing daily.
