MyEtherWallet Fork Appears, Confusing Users

February 11, 2018

A popular Ethereum wallet MyEtherWallet (MEW) has unexpectedly released an alternative product dubbed MyCrypto.com. One of the developers of MEW announced this on February 9 in a blog entry.

MyEtherWallet is considered to be one of the most popular storage for ERC20 tokens. New project, which has almost identical design and functionality, will co-exist alongside MEW.

Taylor Mohanan, one of the original MyEtherWallet developers, in her blog gave a brief history of MEW and told about the motivation behind the creation of the new wallet. She has not disclosed her relationships with the co-developer of MEW, known as Kvhnuke.

She wrote:

"MyEtherWallet LLC was sufficient for the early stages of growth. MyCrypto is designed with next-level scaling in mind from the beginning."

Monahan also wrote that it took her nine months to assemble a team for all operations related to the development of MyCrypto.

She also added:

"Kvhnuke remains in control of the MEW github repository, the MEW domain, the AWS instances, and the MyEtherWallet social media accounts."

The structure of MyEtherWallet helped it to avoid common issues of other crypto-puses, which face difficulties caused by the influx of new users.

Internet users all over the world are very suspicious about this confusing situation. MyEtherWallet posted a statement, which curiously have coincided with the release of news about MyCrypto.
